Scalp Micropigmentation

WHAT IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical hair loss treatment that provides instant and unrivaled results for men and women of all skin tones and hair types.  This innovative hair loss solution is becoming the most popular cost effective way to defy hair loss and give instant results that require very little maintenance. The great thing about SMP is it is a versatile artistry that  can be customized to each individual with regards to color, definition, density, style, texture, and coverage.

Scalp Micropigmentation can give back definition to hairlines, and or create the look of a buzz or wet shave cut. It also can remedy hair loss by adding the illusion of more density through follicular simulation under thinning hair. Different shades of pigment are customized to accommodate different styles.

Scalp Micropigmentation  is by far the most affordable long term hair loss solution that provides instant results that require very little maintenance.  Hair systems, fibers and hair clubs can be expensive and require consistent maintenance.  Scalp Micropigmentation is perfect for those who are looking to rebuild definition to their receding hairline, or create a soft buzzed hair style add by adding follicular density to mask areas of hair loss.

The human head has an average of 1250-2000 follicles per square inch.  Which makes SMP an extremely intricate art that requires an artistic eye.  The artist uses a specially designed needle to insert tiny micro impressions of pigment into the dermal layer of the scalp to emulate a single hair follicle.  It is a building process that takes several sessions to layer and place each follicle with this pointillism technique to mimic natural 3D hair follicles.

IS SMP RIGHT FOR YOU?

If you are experiencing hair thinning or hair loss due to the following reasons, SMP could be your answer for viable hair restoration.

Male Pattern Baldness:  The most common type of hair loss that typically begins with the receding hairline and the thinning progresses to the crown giving the appearance of a horseshoe in the back.

Alopecia:  There are different stages of alopecia and or alopecia areata that can cause partial to total hair loss.   By identifying follicle loss and replicating those hair follicles SMP can help fix extensive hair loss.

Hair Transplants:  A lot of men who have had hair transplants or failed transplants will use scalp micropigmentation after their procedure to give more density.

Concealing Scars- SMP is the best solution to help camouflage scars, and blend in with surrounding hair.

Thinning Hair:  For both men and women thinning hair can be deflating, and there are many reasons that can cause hair to thin.  Fortunately, SMP can help hide hair loss by filling in areas underneath the hair where it has thinned, giving the illusion of a fuller head of hair.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

SMP CONSULTATIONS ARE FREE

We require consultations in order to properly assess and understand your vision.  We recommend doing an in person consultation with our technician if possible to obtain a quote. Out of state clients can send in photographs and set up a phone consultation with the artist.  Every individual is different with regards to styles and degrees of hair loss. All quotes are based on your Norwood coverage requirements to achieve your desired look or style. The average client ranges from $1400 – $3200 depending on their objectives and desired look.

Please refer to the Norwood table below as a reference guide for sessions and costs.

COST TABLE WILL BE PROVIDED DURING CONSULTATION

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Coverage and density vary person to person. On average there are 3-4 sessions to build back density. These sessions can take up to 1-3 hours per appointment. Each appointment is spaced at least 1 week apart in between sessions. SMP is a gradual process that is very detailed, and an intricate art. This allows you to guide and build back your look slowly. We start conservative with a light dimensional shade of color and build over time to 3-4 different shades to give dimension which gives the most natural look. Follicles do not grow in the same pattern or direction so it is important that an artist knows to replicate these imperfections and natural direction patterns while creating density so that it follows yours and looks natural.

It is important to do your research when searching for the right artist.  Not all practitioners are created equal or have adequate training and experience to deliver your style results.  If you find yourself a victim of a less satisfactory SMP treatment you may need to consult for options for a removal service- which can be painful and costly.  It takes years of practice to develop this skill and become a true specialist in this field. Make sure you find the artist who is best suited for your style and vision.

Scalp Micropigmentation Prep & Post Care

PRIOR TO YOUR SMP APPOINTMENT

  • Hair Products: Discontinue use of styling and hair products 48 hours before and after your SMP procedure. This includes spray-on products, foams, powders, gels, hairspray, pomade, fibers, mousse, and or serums.  If using products like Rogaine/Minoxidil for hair restoration, please refrain from using one week before you SMP and do not resume until 2 weeks after completing your SMP sessions.
  • Hair Cuts:    If you use a razor it is recommended to do 3 days before your SMP session.  The artist will need to see your follicle base to follow the follicular pattern.  If you shave your head using a hair trimmer, it is recommended to use a 1/2 or no guard 24 hours before your appointment.  This way the length is the correct length for blending.
  • Hair Color Appointments:  If you have longer hair it is advised you do any hair color appointments 3 days before having your SMP session.
  • Sun Exposure: Avoid tanning salons, laying out, or spray tans for two weeks prior and after your appointment.  Your technician needs to see the natural undertones in your skin and will not be able to carry out your appointment if your skin had sun exposure.  Sun damage can also cause the skin to peel which will effect the retention and fade the color of pigment during your sessions.

SMP POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  •   Showers & Shampooing:  It is not recommended to get the scalp wet with hot water or submerge under water for up to 5 days after having your appointment.  If you need to “freshen” in that 5-day interim you can lightly rinse with cold water and a little baby shampoo- just refrain from rubbing scalp and using products that have harsh chemicals.  After 5 days you can rinse the scalp and resume shampooing as usual.
  •  Exercising / Sweating:  It is not recommended to do strenuous activities after having your appointment.  Excessive sweating can cause problems with retention and change the PH in the skin.  Wait 5 days to work out or resume any temperature extremes such as steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs etc.
  •   Sun Exposure:  Be mindful of the sun and direct sun exposure for up to a week after having your procedure.  You can wear a loose-fitting hat to cover in short intervals to cover as it heals – just nothing too constricting.  For best results we always advise the continued daily continued use of sunscreen products to protect your investment. (SPF 30+)
  • Hats:   Yes, you can wear a loose fitting hat after your procedure.  Just be sure to only wear it when needed, and that it is not tight or constricting to the scalp. It is important that the skin can breath to heal properly.

Scalp micro-pigmentation artwork will need to be refreshed as it fades over the years – which varies based on an individual’s metabolism, physiology, and lifestyle. Your body will break down the pigment over time, and it will begin to fade.  Touch ups are recommended to maintain follicle detail.
